Finishing Strong at TOL

We are nearing the end of the school year and we’re excited for TOL students to finish strong! There are 19 school days and 30 calendar days (Edgenuity is always on) for your student to complete all their classes to 100%. Seniors have a bit shorter timeline each year and their final day to do work in Edgenuity is June 8.

The deadline for all Edgenuity work submissions is midnight Tuesday, June 21.

Tips for finishing strong:

  • Check your TPS emails daily and communicate with your teachers
  • Attend your weekly PACE meeting
  • Attend help sessions for your classes.
  • Teachers will work with you!
  • Make a plan to pass each of your classes

TPS High School Students–Sending and Receiving External Emails

Beginning May 31, high school students can send and receive external emails through their school email accounts. This adjustment will help ensure students can communicate with colleges, community partners, internships and other outside agencies. The district’s technology team works to balance student security and information access. Access to personal email accounts on district devices will continue to be restricted.

Summer Learning

TOL will be operating two Summer Learning Programs this year! We will be operating a Summer Learning Program for Middle School students and we’ll have details very shortly.

For High School students, we will be operating an Edgenuity-based credit retrieval program for students who have not earned credit in a class somewhere along their high school career. This is the fastest and best way to make up missing credits. The program will run Mondays-Thursdays from June 28 – July 27 with July 4th off for Independence Day.TOL Teachers will be available from 9AM –1PM on school days to help students.

Counselors will be contacting students who need credit retrieval, but you can also sign yourself up now by going to the High School Summer Learning page and clicking on Credit Retrieval.

Lead Your Way –Free One-Day Leadership Event

Lead your way is a program for rising sophomores and juniors in Tacoma who are interested in learning about the challenges and opportunities of leadership, reflecting on their own leadership skills and development, and understanding the role they play in improving their communities. Admission to the program will prioritize students with significant lived experience as leaders, and fewer opportunities for formal leadership programs. Speakers will represent women who lead across a variety of sectors and will highlight women’s leadership development, successes, and challenges.

This one-day event takes place at the Tacoma Museum of Glass and the UW Tacoma Campus on Friday, August 5th.

Tacoma FLEX coming to High School Students in 2022-2023

We are excited to announce another opportunity to support our students and families by introducing Tacoma Flex! This new opportunity provides access to online courses through Tacoma Online for students attending each of our high schools in person. Online courses will be offered at the beginning and/or end of the school day. Tacoma Flex will provide flexibility for students to:

  • Utilize late-start or early dismissal to take care of their physical and mental health, or to care for others.
  • Apply for employment opportunities not available or accessible with a full, in-person schedule to support themselves or others.
  • Enroll in courses that may otherwise not be available to them at their school or with their schedule.

The pandemic illustrated the need for innovative learning and alternative scheduling options for students. Tacoma Flex is designed to meet the individual needs of our students and continue to break the barrier of a one-size-fits-all pathway to graduation.

TPS students and families will have the option to participate or not and choose what is best for them or their student.Parental consent is required to participate.

If you are a TOL student currently, and you would like to return to in-person learning next year, whether completely, or to still take an online class or two through Tacoma Flex, please email tolenrollment@tacoma.k12.wa.usand let our team know. We’ll work to get you re-enrolled in a building.
