High School - Standardized Testing Coming Soon

Each year, WA state mandates standardized testing for public school students. Things have been a bit unusual during the peaks of COVID but they are getting back to normal. Please sign up by Friday, April 1.

  • Sophomores: This year, all 10th graders are planned to take the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) for English Language Arts (ELA) and for Math. We are planning these tests for Tuesday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 20. It’s possible that some students might finish both tests in one day, but we’re scheduling both days for you to complete them.
  • Juniors: 11th Graders you’re getting this email because you have not yet passed one or both of the Math/ELA tests and so we can schedule these tests for you on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22. It’s possible that some students might finish both tests in one day, but we’re scheduling both days for you to complete them. Some of you need only one test, others both. Passing these tests is a graduation requirement. While there are other ways to meet this, like certain SAT test scores, the simplest way to meet this requirement is to take and pass the SBA test. We encourage you to sign up!
  • 11th Graders are also scheduled to take the WCAS Science test on Wednesday, May 11.

All of these tests will be administered by TOL staff in-person and on-site at the Tacoma Professional Development center located in N. Tacoma at 6501 N. 23rd Street Tacoma, WA 98406. In order to best utilize the space we have, we will only schedule students to test who responded to this sign-up saying YES, they will take these tests. These tests will require you to bring your TPS laptop with you to the test location.
