Take a tour of the new Oakland Campus

We recently celebrated the newly re-opened Oakland Campus with community members, students, families and staff from Oakland Secondary, Tacoma Online and Tacoma Flex. During the event, people explored the building and participated in activities hosted by community partners and contractors, and got a behind-the-scenes looks at construction.

Oakland was originally built as an elementary in 1912 and eventually transitioned into a high school. In 2020, voters approved a set of building replacements and updates, including Oakland. With its listing on the City of Tacoma’s Landmarks Preservation Register, Oakland could be remodeled, but not completely rebuilt. As a result, over the last two years, Oakland’s exterior was meticulously preserved, and its interior was completely remodeled. The Oakland building remains on the City of Tacoma’s Landmarks Preservation Register.

In case you missed the event, check out a student-led tour of the building!
